Headway are a charity who can provide help to brain injury sufferers and their carers.

Brain injury can happen to anyone at any time, common causes being car accidents, assaults and falls.

Since my climbing accident in 2003 I regard myself as very lucky to have not been to Headway as client/member. I have always regarded myself as too well, the lack self awareness of ones condition is one of the affects of a brain injury, but I do believe that I have been able to do alot more for myself than other brain injury sufferers that I have met.

Headway Swindon saw a piece about me in the local Swindon Advertiser when I was doing my first marathon in 2004, andasked me to visit them and talk to their clients. To do this I put together a presentation 'Journey of Recovery - a story recovery from severe head injury' which was the genesis of this website 'A Journey of 1000 miles starts with a single step'

I have done this presentation now to Headway branches in Swindon, Bath and Jersey. See the Headway UK page for links to the other branches

I have updated it as my recovery has progressed until in October 2007 I regarded myself as fully recovered. Mainly because I am now able to work a full week and still remain active in the evening and weekends but also because in my parallel track of running I have now raced the Jersey marathon instead of just running one.
