While I was very fortunate in not needing the services of Headway after my accident, there are alot of people who do rely on them after less serious incidents. One of the lasting affects of my accident has been that I will now raise funds for Headway - the brain injury association as most people who have suffered brain injury are not able to contemplate running 1 mile let alone a marathon or further. I had my accident in Jan 2003. These are the fund raising efforts that I have carried out on Headways behalf: May 2004 : Neolithic Marathon. Raised £2000 which I split between Headway and the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust who organise the event. March 2005 :I got a team together to take part in the High Peak Marathon. Between us we raised £3000 for Headway. June 2006 : I ran the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Raised £3000 for Headway. June 2007 : A run of the 3 peaks (Snowdon, Scafell and Ben Nevis) and cycle the 540 miles between them. 3 Peaks, 2 Legs and a Bike. I made as much use of the Sustrans routes as possible for the cycling stages. Raised £1600 for Headway. 2008 : At the moment my plan is to not do any major fundraising event in 2008. In October 2007 I started working a 5 day week which is hard enough without having to train for a multiday event. I may revise this depending on how the 5 day week goes. I do intend to run the Headway Jersey marathon in October again which may become my fund raiser for the year. | |||
